A rare early 18th century Dutch Delftware barbers dish (scheerkom), decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with stylized floral motifs. In the center of the round well is an ablooming flower depicted, surrounded by floral and sprigs (parsley decor), interrupted by a border of whorls

This bowl was a practical tool for barbers, designed with a crescent-shaped notch to rest securely against the neck during shaving. In the 17th and 18th centuries, barbers also acted as surgeons, and similar bowls were sometimes used for bloodletting

Height: 10.5 cm

Condition: Restoration along the rim; one point of the notch has been restored.
