Delft Kangxi style charger, by ‘De porceleyne Bijl’, 18th century

$989.52

ABOUT THIS ITEM

18th-century Dutch Delft charger in Kangxi style, decorated in cobalt blue on a white tin-glazed ground. The central area features a stylized Chinese garden, framed by a wide rim divided into ten fan-shaped panels with alternating floral and foliate motifs, characteristic of Dutch adaptations of Chinese porcelain designs.

Marked: A blue axe (bijl) mark of De Porceleyne Bijl, one of Delft’s oldest and most important faience factories, founded in 1657 and still in operation today. De Porceleyne Bijl was renowned for producing high-quality tin-glazed earthenware, including pieces in the Kangxi style, which reflected the Dutch fascination with Chinese export porcelain during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

Diameter: 30 cm.

Condition: minor rim chips and wear consistent with age

This charger is an excellent example of 18th-century Dutch Delftware, combining Kangxi-style design elements, historical significance, and decorative appeal. It is ideal for antique collectors, museum-quality displays, or high-end interior decoration.

A similar but larger plate is part of the Rijksmuseum collection, inv. no. BK-NM-13296-E
