Delft pair of ‘Peacock’ plates by ‘De Blompot’ – second half 18th century

Pair of 2 Dutch Delft blue and white ‘Peacock’ plates,  second half 18th century. These blue and white Delft plates, a fine example of 18th-century Delftware, feature a central urn containing a fan of peacock feathers with stylized floral elements, painted in cobalt blue on a white tin-glazed earthenware surface. The rim has scrolling patterns with small floral motifs and an ocre-colored border, typical of European decorative pottery from this period.

The ‘Peacock’ motif (“pauwenstaart”) is a recurring decorative element in antique Dutch ceramics, commonly found on large Delft plates and chargers intended for display. The design reflects the influence of Chinese export porcelain on Dutch Delftware, integrating Chinese-inspired elements into Rococo Delft and other contemporary decorative styles.

Condition: good condition; minor fritting and typical rim wear consistent with age. No restoration.

Marked ‘B:P’ for pottery ‘De Vergulde Blompot’ (1616-1841)
Pieter Verburg registered ‘De Blompot’ factory mark in the (Delft) register from 1764. Verburg is the owner from 1756-1789.

It is very nice that these two are born together as a set. They have exactly the same coloring and marks.
