A pair of mid-18th century Dutch Delftware chargers from the mid 18th century,
The central medallions feature a finely painted vase or incense burner, inspired by Chinese blue-and-white porcelain. The broad borders are divided into panels depicting Daoist symbols, including motifs associated with the Eight Treasures such as stylized Artemisia leaves, coral-like forms, and ruyi scepters, rendered in varying shades of cobalt blue.
These plates exemplify the European adaptation of Chinese decorative symbolism in mid-18th century Delftware.
Marked LPK in underglaze blue mark for De Porceleyne Lampetkan factory. Founded in 1609 the factory operated until 1811.
Very good condition; light chipping and usual wear to the rim, consistent with age. One larger notable chip to the bottom of one of the chargers.
It is very nice that these two are born together as a set. They have exactly the same coloring and marks.
Size: 30 cm diameter
