Spanish Azulejo set of 4 tiles Arista y Cuenca – Toledo 16th century

A set of four early Arista y Cuenca tiles from Toledo, Spain, dating to circa 1550–1575. These tiles were produced during the Spanish Renaissance, a period when Toledo was a major center for ceramic production. The tiles are decorated with stylized floral motifs in the Renaissance style, created using the arista technique, where raised ridges separate the colored glazes – a hallmark of Toledo craftsmanship.

During this era, Toledo workshops were influenced by both Islamic and Italian Renaissance designs, resulting in tiles that combined intricate geometric patterns, floral motifs, and vibrant glazes.
